street cat is a small side project that turned into a language-practice habit. each "cat" is one personality, in one language, texting you short messages throughout the day — a word of the day, a voice note, a question about your life. you reply when you have a minute. no lessons, no streak guilt, no app to open — it lives wherever you already text.
it's built by one person who wanted daily practice that didn't feel like homework. it's not a big company, and it won't pretend to be a certified tutor — just a patient, slightly nosy cat.
why by country, not just language
a language is never just a language.
"learn portuguese" hides a real question: which portuguese? the one spoken in lisbon and the one spoken in são paulo carry different words, different accents, and different daily rhythms — close enough to confuse a textbook, different enough to matter to a real conversation. street cat starts from a country or region, not a language code, so every cat's lessons carry the context of one real place instead of an average of several.
that's also why each cat brings up music, movies, art, and things actually happening where it's from, instead of sticking to vocabulary lists. talking about a song someone actually loves, or a film everyone where they live has seen, does more for a language than another set of flashcards — it's how you start to feel connected to a place, not just able to order coffee in it.
